Supporting First Responders’ Mental Health in Mobile, Alabama
The city of Mobile, Alabama, is using MyCare Technologies to improve mental health awareness and services. This initiative benefits both the community and first responders.
By integrating MyCare iPads, law enforcement officers and emergency personnel gain immediate access to mental health support whenever they need it most.
A Partnership for Mental Health Support
Alta Pointe, a leading provider of primary and behavioral health services in Alabama, is partnering with the Mobile Police Department. Together, they use MyCare Technologies as a mental health co-response tool.
This collaboration ensures individuals in mental health crises receive timely intervention. At the same time, first responders gain essential mental health resources to support their well-being.
How MyCare iPads Assist First Responders
Each MyCare iPad is equipped with two buttons designed to assist first responders in critical situations:
- The Red Button: First responders press this button when assisting someone in mental distress. It connects them to a trained clinician for real-time de-escalation and support.
- The Blue Button: This button is for first responders’ mental health needs. High-stress incidents and repeated trauma exposure affect officer well-being. Pressing it allows officers to connect virtually with a licensed clinician at Alta Pointe for confidential support and counseling.
Now, mental health care is more accessible than ever for first responders. This ensures they receive the same level of support they provide to the community.
Proven Impact: Mental Health Crisis Response in Mobile
Between October 2023 and December 2023, Mobile, Alabama, received 574 mental health-related calls. MyCare’s telehealth support proved highly effective in managing these crises:
- 83% of cases were resolved on the scene without further intervention.
- Remote assistance helped clinicians de-escalate crises, preventing unnecessary hospitalizations or arrests.
- First responders gained direct access to behavioral health professionals, improving outcomes for law enforcement and the community.
By adding mental health resources to first responder protocols, Mobile is setting a new standard for crisis intervention.
