From a small pilot in rural Oklahoma to a statewide system transforming crisis response, MyCare’s success is now taking root in Alabama.
MyCare Technologies launched in Oklahoma with a clear goal: help law enforcement and first responders connect individuals in crisis to licensed behavioral health professionals in real time using secure, FirstNet-enabled iPads. These tablets empower agencies to respond faster and with more compassion.
It started small: one county, a few devices, and a simple idea tested in the field. The model quickly proved effective.
In just 18 months:
Oklahoma agencies using MyCare saved 576 days of transport time
More than $700,000 in cost savings were reported
Thousands of behavioral health calls were resolved on-scene
As results came in, the model was expanded statewide. MyCare became a central part of crisis response in both rural and urban Oklahoma communities.
Alabama: Following a Field-Tested Blueprint
Alabama’s rollout is modeled after the proven success in Oklahoma.
In Cleburne and Calhoun Counties, 70 tablets have been deployed by Highland Health Systems. They were distributed to outpatient programs and law enforcement agencies to support in-the-field intervention.
South Central Alabama Mental Health Center teamed up with the Enterprise Police Department to provide assistance to officers in the field. This collaboration also allows officers access to confidential mental health support when they need it themselves.
In Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Escambia Counties, Southwest Alabama Behavioral Healthcare is also leveraging MyCare to expand crisis response and access to care. According to Robert Brewer, the impact has been immediate—reducing wait times, boosting staff morale, and helping limited teams serve more people.
“Southwest was able to equip every therapist, local emergency department, and jail with a MyCare unit—giving us on-demand access to crisis and consultation services. The agency has dramatically reduced wait times and can now move more quickly toward next steps. One local hospital even shared that staff morale has improved because they know clients can be seen at the touch of a button. For a community mental health center like ours, being able to stretch limited staff this far has been a game changer.“

Southwest Alabama Behavioral Health Care Systems
In Mobile County, MyCare was introduced as part of a larger co-response effort in partnership with AltaPointe Health and the Mobile Police Department. Between October and December 2023, the Mobile Police Department responded to 574 mental health-related calls with 83% resolved on scene. Over the past year, AltaPointe has resolved 90% of mental health calls on scene with support from MyCare
Oklahoma’s use of MyCare led to a 93.1% reduction in psychiatric hospitalizations. In Alabama, early outcomes are showing promise as well, with 90% of mental health calls being resolved on scene—a strong indicator of success.

Building on What Works
A real-time test was conducted through the Oklahoma pilot. From its success, broader adoption was made possible. The same framework is now being scaled in Alabama, where similar impact is already being observed.
Measurable outcomes are being delivered to law enforcement and behavioral health centers through MyCare. With this support, unnecessary hospitalizations, arrests, and use of force are being significantly reduced. Officers are being empowered to respond more safely and effectively, and greater collaboration is being established between public safety and behavioral health systems.
