The Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) the largest law enforcement agency in Oklahoma, serves a diverse population across more than 620 square miles spanning five counties. Recognizing that many mental health calls are better addressed by licensed professionals, OKCPD uses MyCare to better serve residents with innovative resources.
OKCPD partners with three Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) in the metro, including HOPE, Red Rock, and NorthCare. These clinics work closely with law enforcement and the fire department to provide alternative crisis responses. OKCPD uses MyCare iPads to provide immediate access to crisis services. These tools enable officers to connect individuals in distress with counselors who offer real-time support and guidance, helping to de-escalate situations quickly and effectively.
This collaboration ensures that residents receive specialized care during critical moments, allowing officers to focus on public safety while empowering mental health professionals to assist where they’re needed most. OKCPD’s commitment to community well-being exemplifies how technology, partnerships, and teamwork can transform crisis response efforts.
Mental health-related calls dispatched to Oklahoma City police officers dropped by over 57% from October 2023 to October 2024, decreasing from 1,292 calls to 549, according to the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
